Biomechanics

The plant root is in constant contact with soil, and it is necessary for the root to adapt its shape for nutrient and water uptake, as well as for anchorage. But what are the exact mechanical changes the plant undergoes to achieve these goals?

Current projects related to biomechanics are:

1. Use of Micro- and Microfludic devices for the measurement of mechanical properties

2. Mechanical adaption to nutrient limitation

3. Mechanical adaption to mechanical stress
