The body forms of plants have diversified due to the evolution of some molecular machinery. It is well known that the leaf is transformed into floral organs. In contrast, plants have also evolved novel organs by repressing leaf function or growth (Cactus, heterotrophic plants, etc.). Recently, we discovered a responsible gene involved in leaf repression and demonstrated how evolution of this gene is associated with morphological diversification. Apart from this, many differences between plants, from algae to vascular plants, are also expected with respect to molecules involved in cell and tissue polarity formation (e.g., polar auxin transport). We will uncover how molecular evolution contributes to the morphological diversification of land plants. Besides the evolution of leaf morphology<\/strong>, we are currently studying the evolutionary process of polar auxin transport<\/strong> and their roles in morphological diversification by exploiting non-seed plants (M. Polymorpha<\/em> and P. patens<\/em>). We are also planning to investigate the evolution of symbiosis between plants and microorganisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Current projects and the projects which will be undertaken are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1.
